Ryan Urban: Student by day, Artist by night

Graduation is quickly approaching and seniors are more than excited to be free from the hallowed halls of LHS. This being my last art blog to be published, I’d like to feature a rather comedic and skilled member of the class of 2014 who has left a particularly large footprint on the lives of his fellow classmates through his passion and love for art.

“My first art experience was with Mrs. Buck back in elementary school, and I’ve sorta been stuck ever since,” Ryan Urban, senior, said. “Mr. Harvey really made it stick, though, when he approached my mom at Parent Teacher Conferences and asked for me to be in his future pro art class when I was a freshman.”

Since then, Urban has experimented in several mediums ranging from clay, stained glass and charcoal to fabric, wax and plaster. Choosing to completely immerse himself in the art world, Urban has taken all traditional art classes offered at LHS including Art 1, Art 2, Ceramics, Stained Glass, Sculpture, and two years of Pro Art.

But Urban has not only chosen to show his passion in traditional forms of art; he has also extensively involved himself in school productions and theater as well as choir for several years. Additionally, digital art and video editing are two forms of art that Urban has added to his portfolio along with writing.

“I’ve actually done some writing commissions via the internet,” Urban said. “So I’d like to say that I’m a fairly good writer when I get the chance.”

Urban is still undecided about what he would like to go into after high school, but he is optimistically sticking to his passions with non-traditional forms of art as a career.

“Right now, I’m looking into a major for communications, and advertising is on the list. I have a small background with digital art and video editing, so I think after some time that may be fun,” Urban said. “Theater with stage crew is also something I love, so I will have to make some serious decisions eventually.”

Good luck in your future endeavors, Ryan! It’s clear that you will continue to leave a legacy wherever your art takes you!
